Sink Basket Strainer with Stopper, 3-Pack - Stainless Steel for 3 and a Half Inch Drains

A three-pack of stainless steel basket strainers sized for the standard 3 1/2″ kitchen sink drain opening found on most residential sinks. The basket catches food scraps before they reach the trap, and drops in to seal the bowl when you need to fill it.

Stainless steel construction holds up better than plated pot metal, which pits and flakes after a few years of dish soap and hot water. Having spares on hand means you are not hunting for a replacement when one gets chewed up or lost.

Check your drain opening before ordering. Most kitchen sinks use a 3 1/2″ opening, but bar and prep sinks are often smaller.

Installation and Use

1. Measure your drain opening. Lay a tape across the hole in the sink bowl. A standard kitchen sink measures 3 1/2″ across. Bar and prep sinks are usually smaller and will not take these.
2. Take the old basket out. Lift it straight up. If soap scum has it stuck, twist it a quarter turn while you pull.
3. Wipe the seat clean. Run a rag around the inside of the drain opening so the new basket sits flat. Grit under the rim is what makes a basket rock and leak.
4. Drop the new basket in. It seats in the existing drain body under its own weight. No tools, no plumber's putty, no disassembly under the sink.
5. To strain, leave the basket sitting in the drain and run water as usual. Scraps collect in the basket instead of packing into the trap.
6. To hold water, press the basket down into its seat so the seal contacts the drain body, then fill the bowl. Lift the basket to drain.
7. Empty and rinse the basket after each use. Scraps left sitting will stain the bowl and hold odor.

Care

• Rinse with dish soap and hot water. Skip steel wool and bleach, which scratch the finish and attack the seal.
• If the basket stops holding water, check the seal for a trapped scrap or a nick, and swap in one of the spares.
• Keep the unused baskets in a drawer, not in the sink cabinet where they can be crushed.
